In 1986 Giuseppe Vicenzi decided that this distant tradition should not be lost just for the advent of electricity.

Hence, the thirty-year collaboration between the Arena foundation and the group Vicenzi was born which is renewed every year by thousands of candles given to the audience and that during the opera season opened the operas in programme, as a sign of good wishes, creating in turn a show within the show, lighting up the symbol of Verona.
